How Games are Changing the World

My daily newsletter – How Games are Changing the World – seeks to chronicle how video games are impacting the way we live our lives, with a particular emphasis on art, science, innovation, and society.

Games aren’t just for fun. They can carry messages and themes that alter our views. They address important issues such as climate change, injustice, violence, healthcare, and poverty. My newsletter will highlight games that have something to say about the world.

Video games are major innovators in how we communicate with one another. During this pandemic, games have become a leading conduit for friendships and information exchange. They can be rich, virtual areas where we can teach, learn, and work. I want to write about how games are finding new ways to connect us.

Games are increasingly recognized as superb disseminators of education and skills. Medical staff, engineers, students, teachers, scientists, military personnel, and more are using games to learn and sharpen their skills. In the years to come, I’m convinced games will be central to how we enhance our lives.

Although games are often viewed as being separate from other forms of entertainment, they are now intertwined with movies, books, comics, music, television, toys, and sports. This trend will only sharpen, as artists find new ways to weave forms together, and to explore new modes of interactive entertainment.

Games are also central to the lives of millions. I want to highlight how individuals are using games to speak to the world, in ways that are inspiring, or troubling, or just plain curious.

Every weekday, How Games are Changing the World will chronicle the ways that games are impacting our present and our future. This newsletter is for anyone who cares about the future of gaming as more than merely a pastime or a corporate profit source. I hope to be open-minded where possible, and skeptical when necessary.

I hope you’ll find How Games are Changing the World to be a useful and entertaining addition to your daily news needs.

The newsletter is entirely free to everyone. Please share with anyone who you think might enjoy the newsletter. You can email me here.
